Why We Created It
Nobody hands parents and coaches a guide for the part of youth sports that happens in the stands and in the car — and it turns out that part matters more than any of us realized. Kids consistently say the ride home is the worst part of playing, worse than losing. The adults who love these kids most are, without meaning to, the biggest source of the pressure.
The Playbook turns the ideas in Raise the Player, Not the Pressure into something a team can actually do together: six short, ready-to-run sessions built on one line — less pressure plus more fun equals more success, and the adults hold the lever.
What’s Inside — Six Sessions
Why less pressure and more fun is the performance formula, not the soft option.
The single most useful skill in sports — pointed at the adults first.
Fixing the 20 minutes that shape your kid’s entire relationship with their sport.
Fear of failure is the real opponent — and the adults decide how it goes.
Development over status, every time — what the research says about the athletes who last.
The whole program in writing — signed by parents and athletes together.
How To Use It
Each session runs 20 to 35 minutes and ends with one small commitment for the week. A coach can run one before practice each week for six weeks. A club can turn it into a parent-night series. A single family can read a session together at the kitchen table. There is no wrong way — the only requirement is that the adults go first.
Every session includes a facilitator script (“say this”), a short teach, discussion questions, an activity, and a closing commitment. No training needed — print it, open it, and read.
